October Surprise

It’s debate night, so I thought I’d publicly reveal the content of some of my emails and provide a Moonshot update. No grotesquely sexist locker room banter here!

1. We have a premiere!

Moonshot has been selected to the 17th season of the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival’s Vortex. It will screen in Providence on October 22. Click here for the schedule.

2. Awards

Ahead of our premiere, we are finalists for two major awards…

  • CINE Golden Eagle
  • American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) Vilmos Zsigmond Student Heritage Award

Wes Hunt (DP) and I will travel to Los Angeles for the ASC event October 15, where we will presumably do other LA-type things like drink organic smoothies and do inverted yoga in a shipping container filled with black sand.

We have also won two competition awards…

  • Los Angeles CineFest: Best Film, August
  • LA Shorts Awards: Best Editing

We’re extremely grateful for this recognition!

3. New Poster

For marketing purposes, we’ve added a second poster to our arsenal, with the help of graphic artist Ginny Iames…

4. Feedback on the film

As a finalist for the CINE Golden Eagle, we received comments from a panel of judges, one of which I’ll share here:

It is hard to count the strengths of this film. It is a delightful romp into a dystopian future, filled with cranky fun. Good use of resources, good photography, good acting. The filmmaker has a deft touch and of the films I have reviewed so far, this has been my favorite. It reminded me of a superb episode of the Twilight Zone without the somberness.

5. Your opinion

  1. How excited I am for you, though not surprised by your talent, skill, achievement and being astute enough to grant me a moment!

  2. I don’t know if it played last night on the 22nd as noted as I was under the impression that yesterday’s lineup and tonight’s was different but it was shown tonight at the one I went to on the 23rd in Rhode Island.

It was definitely my favorite of the seven that were screened.

Overall it was really well done. Loved the style (retro futuristic?). The characters were really good, frank the robot was hilarious and everyone I was with really enjoyed it.

We were told the producer might be there but he wasn’t. Would like to have talked about it.

    Nice work!

  3. Scott, thanks for your kind words! I’m so glad you enjoyed the movie. Sorry we weren’t able to make it up for the screening to talk about the project, but I hope you find some behind-the-scenes answers here on the blog or on our Facebook page. Feel free to reach out any time: moonshotmovie@gmail.com

    Thanks for watching!
